Barrington Irving's Flying Classroom Launches Tuesday, September 23rd from DCA
Global Learning Project Promotes STEM+ Careers
WASHINGTON, Sept. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Join us for the launch of the world's first Flying Classroom, an international STEM+ learning adventure spanning 3 continents, led by Captain Barrington Irving, who holds the Guinness World Record as the youngest person to fly solo around the world. Irving will pilot Inspiration III, a business jet provided by Executive Air Services in Miami. He and his crew will visit North America, Asia, Indonesia, and Australia, exploring real life applications of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, history, geography and humanities (STEM+) through 16 powerful ground, air, and sea expeditions. Inspiration III will travel to all seven continents over three consecutive school years. Throughout each flight, students will have virtual access to Irving's adventures through videos and a real-time storytelling blog on www.flyingclassroom.com. An electronic portal on board will enable them to follow and participate in expeditions in schools and at home on their computers and mobile devices.
The event will also include a STEM+ Career Fair featuring aviation and aerospace tabletops from many companies and organizations, attended by 650 students from Grades 6-12 from the District of Columbia and Baltimore.
