BASIS Independent Fremont Set to Open in 2016
BASIS.ed's 4th U.S. Private School (2nd in Bay Area) Follows Silicon Valley, Brooklyn, and McLean, Virginia
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Jan. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- BASIS Independent Fremont, the newest private school from the nationally ranked, world acclaimed BASIS.ed network, will open its doors in the burgeoning East Bay city in the fall of 2016, educating more than 300 kindergarten through 5th grade students at full capacity.
BASIS Independent Fremont will be located at 3300 Kearney Street, adjacent to Fremont Central Park, and is BASIS.ed's second Bay Area independent school. The new school will feed students directly into BASIS Independent Silicon Valley in San Jose's Willow Glen neighborhood, which opened to acclaim last year to grades 5-12 and is already at full capacity. Fremont students will receive automatic admission into the Silicon Valley campus.
BASIS Independent was drawn to Fremont as an already thriving and still growing and transforming community for contemporary businesses and families. "Fremont is becoming a center of the skilled workforce here in the South Bay," BASIS Independent CEO Ian Block said. "It's a residential hub, and home to the flourishing 'Warm Springs Innovation District.'"
More than 15% of students at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley already commute from Fremont, since it's an incubator of innovation for numerous clean tech and advanced manufacturing businesses -- including Tesla, Seagate, Solar City, Soraa, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Lam Research, and Imergy, among dozens more.
"Look closely at us and you will see what it means to be a global learning community preparing children to seize the opportunities of our complex 21st Century world," Block added. "People who live in Fremont are innovators. They want the best. And BASIS Independent Fremont is that: a small, intimate school for young children that is intellectually and imaginatively open to the world."
Of note:
- This will be the first Bay Area independent school utilizing the BASIS.ed elementary school academic program, which has been lauded for offering Mandarin and engineering classes from kindergarten; for its hands-on, project-based "Connections" class linking arts, science, math, and humanities; and for its vibrant array of fine, visual, and performing arts and music coursework.
