Bay Area Commercial General Contractor Launches New Project

As Gary Matsushita, Vice President of Operations for the Computer History Museum noted, the museum and MAI Construction, Inc. have enjoyed a long history of working together.

In fact, Matsushita noted, their first project took place in 2008, when the museum hired MAI Construction, Inc. to transform a very "corporate" looking lobby into an ideal space for an exhibit devoted to a Babbage engine that was built in London.

"Over the last 10 years, we have moved through the museum going floor by floor," said Barry Paxton, Vice President of MAI Construction, Inc.

The new space will serve as a hub for learning at the museum to facilitate new experiences and insights at the intersection of technology and humanity. It will give the museum a flexible, innovative space to hold educational workshops and classes, expand its executive offerings, and enhance live programming and events for K-12 students, educators, families, global business leaders, and entrepreneurs. The project—which involves transforming a former storage area into a meaningful and interactive space for learners of all ages—will include an area with new arena-style seating, high-end finishes including millwork, floor coverings, window treatments, new glass sliding doors, magnetic marker board paint and a new 3Form cloud ceiling system.

"Framing on this new space is extensive, as all the new and existing walls will receive a layer of plywood for future museum exhibits to hang their pieces," the spokesperson noted, adding that the project scope also includes new exterior egress doors, research office, an immersive gallery, and rework of their existing storage vestibule area for volunteer operations.
