Behavioral/Group Dynamics Specialist Hired by HIV/AIDS Healing Community
LMSW Laura MacLeod appointed to lend her professional expertise to lead monthly staff support groups at housing works
NEW YORK, Jan. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 1.2 million people in the United States are currently living with HIV. Housing Works is a healing community of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Their mission is to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS through relentless advocacy, the provision of lifesaving services, and entrepreneurial businesses that sustain our efforts. Housing Works offers a Case Management Program that is devoted to helping HIV victims achieve greater health on their own with guidance to help them in the right direction. LMSW Laura MacLeod, HR Guru and founder of "From the Inside Out Project®" (www.fromtheinsideoutproject.com), has been appointed by the grassroots organization to lead their monthly staff support groups for their case managers and assistants.
"I am thrilled to be facilitating staff support groups at Housing Works," states Laura MacLeod, founder of From The Inside Out Project®. "I'll be assisting these employees with my own version of a 'customer service/support system'. My staff support group is a kind of customer service for these case managers, a trend that will arise in many organizations this year. It will help these employees manage their stress while they are doing their jobs helping clients."
Housing Works case managers have as many as 70-80 clients and are under enormous pressure to complete paper work and answer to their managing supervisors. Laura is advising them to help each other cope effectively with the stresses that come along with their jobs, help them make changes when possible, and accept what cannot be changed. Through the Case Management Program, these workers consult with clients in need of housing, healthcare, legal/medical benefits, etc., as well as provide a 'customer service/support system' for their clients. These care navigators and care managers build relationships with clients, providers, administrators and co-workers in an effort to provide the best service to the client, which takes time, patience and people skills. This job is very stressful and can be extremely overwhelming - so Laura's job is to assist these workers in managing the stress that they experience while problem solving and resolving conflict on a daily basis.
As a licensed social worker (LMSW) specializing in group facilitation, Laura focuses on a practical application skills method to manage a wide range of specialized & group dynamic settings. In her new position, Laura will be providing her skills and expertise to train the professionals in the Case Management Program so that they are capable of guiding their clients in the right direction, and assuring that their voices be heard and their health always taken care of.
"In an effort to attract and keep valued employees, many companies in 2017 will be looking for ways to improve the culture, relieve stress and promote wellness – and Housing Works is doing just that with the monthly support group that I am leading," continues Laura.
