"We are pleased to be in a position to support Mayor Emanuel's 'Retrofit Chicago' program at One Financial Place and Fifth Third Center," said Mike Reilly, Regional Vice President, Property Management of Behringer Harvard. The 14 commercial properties that are initially participating in Retrofit Chicago's commercial building initiative have pledged to reduce their total energy consumption by at least 20 percent over the next five years.

"The innovative Retrofit Chicago program is compatible with our ongoing commitment to enhance the sustainability of our property management programs in ways that make good business sense for our company, our tenants and the communities we serve," said Jason Mattox, COO of Behringer Harvard.

Behringer Harvard's significant presence in the Chicago market includes ownership interests in five properties comprising more than 4 million square feet of office space and 298 apartment units. In addition to One Financial Place at 440 S. LaSalle Street and Fifth Third Center at 222 S. Riverside Plaza, the firm holds interests in 200 S. Wacker Drive; Burnham Pointe, a 28-story residential tower at the corner of Polk and S. Clark Streets; and 10 & 120 S. Riverside Plaza, an ENERGY STAR® labeled building that also has been certified LEED® Silver: Existing Building–Operations and Maintenance. In early 2012, 10 & 120 S. Riverside Plaza received a BOMA/Chicago "The Outstanding Building of the Year" (TOBY) Earth Award recognizing the management's efforts to preserve and enhance the property's internal and external environments through green and sustainable practices.

Three of the firm's four office assets in Chicago have received commendations for their participation in the Chicago Green Office Challenge, and four are among a total of 13 Behringer Harvard properties that have been designated as Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) 360 Performance Buildings via a prestigious program that validates and recognizes commercial properties demonstrating best practices in building operations and management.

Thirty-nine properties owned by Behringer Harvard's investment programs have earned the ENERGY STAR® label for prudent energy management strategies, representing approximately half of the square footage available in the firm's office properties. Twelve Behringer Harvard properties have achieved LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
