DALLAS, Dec. 22, 2010 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Belo Corp. (NYSE: BLC), one of the nation's largest pure-play, publicly-traded television companies, announced today that KING-TV, its NBC affiliate in Seattle/Tacoma, has been selected to receive an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Silver Baton Award.

The Silver Baton will be awarded to KING for its investigative series, Waste on the Water, which uncovered millions of wasted and misused tax dollars in the Washington state ferry system.  The reports were the product of a four-month investigation by the KING investigative team, including reporter Susannah Frame, producer Kellie Cheadle, photographers Steve Douglas and Doug Burgess and news director Mark Ginther.

"I'm extremely proud of the entire KING news team that works tirelessly to serve the viewers in Seattle/Tacoma every day. This marks the fifth time KING has been honored with an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Silver Baton.  Since 2000, Belo television stations have received 13 duPont Awards, which is more than any other commercial station group.
