KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Eve, a beloved boxer from Pennsylvania, was recently announced as the winner of the Celebrate Your Underdog! photo contest.
An ambassador for the Adopt a Boxer organization, Eve had an impressive following with over 2,000 votes. A stray boxer, picked up in 2006 weighing only two pounds, Eve brought smiles to many people in spite of significant medical problems before passing away in 2011. Referred to as the happiest dog on the planet by foster parents and community volunteers, Eve loved being with people. She attended hundreds of rescue events and served as a foster sister to over 20 other boxers, helping them relax and prepare for adoption.
Hooray for the Underdog!, Sunrise Greetings, and Bark Magazine established the photo contest for National Pet Adoption month to celebrate the joy brought by rescue dogs. "Over the years, we have fallen in love over and over again with rescue dogs. National Pet Adoption Month seemed the perfect opportunity to celebrate these dogs," says Janet Healey, a founder of HealeyGrisham, the company responsible for the Hooray for the Underdog! line.
The contest had more than 450 submissions and generated nearly 10,000 likes on Facebook. Eve received more than 2,000 votes to be named the winning underdog. The Adopt A Boxer organization received 200 notecards with Eve's picture and information to be used for fundraising efforts.
