Benedict Radcliffe Unveils Wireframe Design Installation as Land Rover Celebrate the Range Rover Evoque in Geneva

GENEVA, March 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- London artist Benedict Radcliffe last night unveiled his latest creation, an exclusive wireframe art installation as part of his recent collaboration with Land Rover.

The installation, a life size piece of art based on the new Range Rover Evoque has been created specially to coincide with the Geneva Motor Show and the reveal of the many exterior and interior design features that allow customers to personalise their vehicles.

As the installation was revealed in Geneva, the Range Rover Evoque was announced 'best production car' in the 2010 Car Design News, Car Design of the Year awards. This highly regarded accolade is the first major international award for the Range Rover Evoque.

Benedict's installation focuses on the individual design elements of the Range Rover Evoque. Building on the Range Rover Evoque wireframe design, the installation will include 3D wheels and front and back seats, all made from steel and painted in a rainbow of colours including lime green and neon pink.

These components are suspended within a 3D wireframe box, creating a life size wireframe representation of the car that as well as fitting together, can also be deconstructed to form individual stand alone pieces of art.

Benedict has played a central role in creating the wireframe concept for Land Rover, advising on the creation of the sculptures, which have been showcased in cities worldwide.

He said "The traditional concept of the wireframe created a huge buzz in 2010 but this is the perfect opportunity to dig a little deeper into the intricate design detail of the Range Rover Evoque. People can't help but get involved with the sculptures and interact with them and I can't wait to see how the installation is received."

About

31 year old Benedict Radcliffe was born and raised in Kent and studied at the Mackintosh School of Art in Glasgow. After graduating, Radcliffe pursued an interest in the commercial fabrication and construction of interiors and furniture as well as art and sculpture working with leading Glaswegian architectural fabricators Scott Associates.

Since leaving Scott Associates as well as continuing to pursue personal projects and exhibitions, he has recently undertaken commissions for Paul Smith, Puma, Red Bull and Comme des Garcons. And this interest in his work has led to him move down from Glasgow and setting up a studio in London.

His work looks at a number of themes; his love of machines and engineering, commercial branding and familiar logos or graphics and transferring them to different contexts and materials.

2010 Car Design of the Year Award

The Car Design of the Year Award for 'Best Production Car' comes hot on the heels of several domestic accolades for Range Rover Evoque including a Design Award from Czech publication 'Auto Design and Styling' and 'Best SUV of 2011' awarded by the Motor Press Editorial Group in Portugal. Earlier this year, The Range Rover Evoque was overwhelmingly voted 'Most Exciting Car of 2011' by users of Whatcar.com in the UK's annual What Car? Awards.
