Berkeley Women's Daytime Drop-In Center Hosts "Chance For Change" Event
Come Celebrate the 27th Year of WDDC Supporting Women in the Bay Area
BERKELEY, Calif., May 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Berkeley Women's Daytime Drop-In Center (WDDC), the first daytime program for women and children in the U.S., announced its annual Chance for Change Fundraiser will be held at the Berkeley Yacht Club on June 6, 2015. This is the 27th year for the event, which is held to benefit more than 1,500 low income, homeless and at-risk women and children that center serves each year.
"I'm excited to be a part of the WDDC's Chance for Change event. It is always a good time, the setting at the Yacht Club is gorgeous, and the proceeds couldn't be used for a better purpose. With funding becoming more challenging, Berkeley comes together to support our local organizations," said Councilmember Linda Maio, Vice Mayor of the City of Berkeley. "Since 1988 WDDC has been a refuge for our women and children to have a homey place to feel welcome, have a warm meal, and receive the help they need in Berkeley."
On June 6th the WDDC will host its annual fundraising event at the Berkeley Yacht Club, the evening is filled with food, drinks, raffles, entertainment by The Dynamic Jazz Duo of Janice and Tony D, and stunning views of the Bay Area sunset. Guests will have a chance to participate in silent and live auctions for prizes such as:
- 2015-2016 NBA Golden State Warrior Tickets
- One week stay at Il Colombaio de Momo villa in Siena, Tuscany
- East Bay Symphony Tickets
- Weekend stay at Sonoma vacation home with a swimming pool
- Music lessons, Jewelry, Books, Beauty Services and much more
The event will raise funds to continue WDDC's efforts to help families regain self-sufficiency and find homes. Admission is $40.00 in advance for general entry, $25.00 for students and volunteers, and $50.00 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at www.womensdropin.org. Everyone is encouraged to come enjoy the fun while contributing to the betterment of women and families in our community.
The Center was founded to ensure a safe daytime refuge where children and their mothers could receive support and nourishing meals, and has since expanded to include housing case management, mental health services, domestic violence prevention, employment referrals, nutrition and sexual health education, parenting support, and access to community resources, with no fee to the women.
