SAN DIEGO, October 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
WatchingFootballGames.com, a popular website on analyzing NFL games and results, has just announced the best sources for watching NFL games online.
"We are thrilled to announce our results," said Matthew Perry, a spokesman behind WatchingFootballGames.com. "There are literally thousands of sites online that allow you to watch pre-recorded of live NFL games and most of them are, put mildly, scams. What we have tried to do is first separate the decent sites from the fluff, and then use various techniques to find which have the highest rating using available interview/survey-based methods," said Perry.
The team behind WFG used several criteria to compare the top rated sites for live streaming. One of the criteria was mentions on discussion boards and social media. "Our focus has been mainly social media. We have used a technique called 'sentiment analysis' which is now widely available for anyone to utilize. This is an algorithm that takes a message and analyzes its words to determine the 'sentiment', or in other words, how positive or negative the person feels in that message. This is pretty important because there were lots of companies with Twitter mentions but the sentiment has been around how annoyed people were with that particular service. We wanted companies with the biggest number of positive mentions," said Mr. Perry.
WatchingFootballGames.com is a website doing analysis on NFL games, scores and players. Some of its analysis has been widely popular on social sharing websites such as StumbleUpon and Reddit. WFG also analyzes various scores and provides guesses on which team is going to win the derby matches. What's unique about WFG is that it also takes a "post-mortem" approach and analyses its analysis, refining its approach to predicting the outcome of the games, separating out the most important metrics.
"Prediction has always been a 'hot' thing in the NFL industry. Predicting a game and stating your reason why you think it's going to end the way you think creates a lot of controversy and discussion around the community, sparking various discussions and arguments. Isn't that what everyone wants, a passionate community?" said Matthew Perry.
Some of the visitors of WFG were also involved in deciding the final results of the survey. Several methods for collecting data were used, including in-depth reviews, brief surveys involving people expressing their opinion in their own words as well as being "constrained" by a set of several questions. Some question examples include, "If you had to choose between x and y, what would you choose and why?", "Suppose you had to design the perfect streaming solution taking the best features from all the sites you have used so far, what would be your ideal design?" and so on.
"Football team names were not mentioned for the simple reason that people tend to get passionate about their favorite team and lose focus on the overall question and the logic behind it. Questions involving particular names could have been asked but we deliberately avoided them for this exact reason," said Mr. Perry.
The core feature of each site (the ability to stream effortlessly and without buffering) was analyzed, but related features like live chat were also taken into consideration. Live tweets about the game, live status updates on Facebook and live analysis from some of the world's most popular real-time commentary sites were some of the features the "best" sites had and were taken as a serious consideration in the final decision.
