Bewitching Semi-Nude Portraits Expose Inner Magick
Award-winning Incognito Witch Paintings in Syracuse and Rochester Galleries in September
SYRACUSE, N.Y., Sept. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Creative sorceress Mollie Kellogg conjures a magickal world on canvas. Mortals are transformed into mystical beings draped in mysterious fabrics, adorned with jewels and leaves, often wearing messy makeup with a signature flash of color under their eyes. True-to-life figures emerge from a textured, glitter-embedded realm, evoking a Mother Nature archetype. Power, strength, attraction, empathy and vulnerability fight for dominance.
"Incognito Witch: You Me Us" depicts a semi-nude Rubenesque mother and her two draped daughters. The family resemblance is uncanny as the three sit side-by-side on a 60"x48" canvas. Their heads graced with flowers, the youngest with tiara in-hand as the mother clutches a gilded mirror, a family heirloom. "You Me Us" is on exhibit at ArtRage Gallery, 505 Hawley Ave., Syracuse, NY, Sept. 6–Oct. 18. Q&A with Mollie Kellogg Sat., Sept. 6, 2–3pm, Reception 7–9pm. The 36"x60" "Incognito Witch: Voluntary Return" suggests a married couple shares a fantastic secret. The wife's head displays a glorious crown of feathers – similar to a set held firmly by her husband. Partially draped, in her lap sits a treasured golden birdcage, unlatched, where little birds twitter free. "Voluntary Return" can be seen at Artisan Direct Rochester Gallery, 565 Blossom Road, Rochester, NY, during the Rochester International Art Festival, Sept. 5–7. In New York City, MZ Urban Art Gallery at Chelsea 27 has a set of three enchanting 12"x12" Witches in inventory.
Incognito Witch paintings reveal the subject's hidden psyche, or inner magick, which has often been suppressed to meet society's expectations. "Hopefully instead of just making pretty pictures, I am making something that has an impact on people," explains Mollie Kellogg.
Kellogg, has taken her message of encouraging self-acceptance from canvas to film. Mollie stars in the quirky short film Incognito Witch: Paint My Life an official selection of the Awareness Festival 2014 in Los Angeles and winner of the LGBTQAI Track Award at Nine Worlds in London. http://vimeo.com/molliekellogg/paintmylife
Since its inception, many have expressed their bucket-list desire to be a part of the project. And fans have found the "hidden magick" message empowering, "I love the Incognito Witch character because she inspires you to let your inner magic shine. Mollie Kellogg is such an inspiration—through her words, her mind, and her art." Another commented, "Mollie is using her art to encourage the expression and celebration of the gifts of hidden magic that exist in all of us."
