Bioscience Start-up, RSI, Pioneers New Product for Infertile Couples

LUBBOCK, Texas, April 18, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- A Lubbock, Texas-based company, Reproductive Solutions, Inc. (RSI), has introduced a new product, ProteX™, designed specifically for semen collection with the potential to improve fertility. ProteX is the first product designed to address the man in a couple seeking infertility treatment. The innovative features can reduce stress to sperm during collection greatly improving quality and longevity of a sample. It also alleviates stress on couples undergoing fertility treatment by providing an option of collecting at home instead of in the clinical setting, returning some intimacy to the process.

The ProteX patented collection device utilizes years of research from the Texas Tech University System. RSI's founders include the co-inventors of ProteX, Dr. Sam Prien and Dr. Dustie Johnson, reproductive physiologist, Dr. Lindsay Penrose, and John Smothers, a successful entrepreneur. All founding members are alumni of Texas Tech University.

"With fertility rates for men have falling between 40% and 60% worldwide over the last four decades, more couples are facing infertility. We've designed a product that addresses this. By improving the collection environment, we have improved the semen parameters normally associated with fertility and improved conception rates in trials in several animal species," says Dr. Samuel Prien, Chief Science Officer. "Laboratory-based trials with human sperm show the same improvement in overall viability. Further, in a preliminary human clinical trial we were able to demonstrate increased semen quality, equivalent pregnancy rates and significantly higher delivery rates when ProteX was used for semen collection."

RSI has begun shipping ProteX to fertility clinics in Texas and is expanding throughout the United States. Product availability will be increasing in 2019 as additional tooling is brought on line to meet demands throughout the United States.

RSI was recently awarded The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center President's Innovation Grant and is located in the newly-formed Innovation Hub at Research Park, on the Lubbock campus of Texas Tech University. The Innovation Hub is an incubator and accelerator for technologies utilizing research, patents and intellectual property generated from Texas Tech University and across West Texas.
