Blackboard Boosts Community Engagement in Texas School District
Link Between Parents, Students and Teachers Strengthened With the Help of Industry-Leading Blackboard ParentLink Mobile App
WASHINGTON, March 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Blackboard Inc., the world's leading education technology company, today announced a partnership that will increase community engagement in Texas' Socorro Independent School District (ISD).
The investment in Blackboard's ParentLink mobile app by the vastly minority and fast-growing military school district comes at a time when the district is moving in a new direction with blended learning. Blackboard's translation capabilities will give over 45,000 students' families access to curriculum, calendar, callouts, attendance and assignment notices to which they would not otherwise have had access.
"Further opening the lines of communication with our families through our new app continues to make a huge difference in the district's ability to serve students," said Dr. Jose Espinoza, Socorro ISD Superintendent. "The fact that Blackboard offers a mobile experience means parents can engage with us from wherever they are. There is a wealth of information available at their fingertips, information that will both help them support their children in school and stay informed regarding school and district matters. This is the wave of the future."
"We are training our students to be Future Ready," said Hector Reyna, Socorro ISD's Chief Technology Officer. "Dr. Espinoza signed the Future Ready Schools pledge and an important part of meeting the high goals of the program is teaching children to utilize the latest technological resources to enhance their learning experience. In line with this vision, Blackboard maximizes mobile technology to give information and ownership for education to parents and students alike."
