Blackboard Redesigns Mobile Learning App
Student Feedback From 6 Million Downloads Drives Updates
WASHINGTON, Oct. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Blackboard Inc. today announced a completely redesigned mobile learning app following extensive analysis of how students are using mobile devices for education. The update to the mobile version of Blackboard Learn™, the company's flagship learning management system (LMS), focuses on simplifying content consumption which allows for a more engaging user experience and greater productivity.
The redesign marks the latest step in the company's efforts to increase its investment in core products, drive greater industry innovation, and integrate its market-leading portfolio to power a comprehensive teaching and learning environment that goes beyond the traditional learning management system.
"We are very excited about this design update as it was driven by our users and industry evolution," said Mark Strassman, senior vice president of product management at Blackboard. "And we're already receiving extremely positive feedback. In particular, student reception has been spectacular. Whether users are logging in at their desktop or on their mobile devices, their experience will be more intuitive, simple and productive."
"The new design is simple and easy to navigate," said Terrence Freeman, student at Humber College. "It makes it easy to go into different modules and see the documents and PowerPoints that my teachers have uploaded. I always have my phone with me—and I don't always have my laptop with me—so I like that I can look into a class assignment anytime I need to."
The app's new user interface allows for easier consumption, navigation, prioritization and customization of content. Students can assign color labels to courses and content, making it intuitive to identify course materials, and rename, reorder and hide courses from view.
The company also announced a number of other improvements to Blackboard Learn including an improved design and workflow for Inline Assignment Grading and Test IP Address Filtering that would require students to be in a specified physical location, such as a proctored computer lab, in order to take a test within the platform.
"These updates are just the latest investments we have made in our core products and in improving user experience," continued Strassman. "While this is an exciting beginning, rest assured, we will continue to deliver our clients an innovative and comprehensive teaching and learning environment."
