FAIRFAX, Va., June 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Blankingship & Keith, P.C. is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the Pro Bono Firm of the Year by Legal Services of Northern Virginia. This year's award was presented at the Annual Northern Virginia Pro Bono Reception on June 6, 2013 at the Alexandria Courthouse.
The award recognizes B&K's broad commitment to pro bono efforts. Over the past year, B&K lawyers and staff have handled a diverse array of cases and representation of indigent and "not for profit" clients. Notable representation includes the firm's participation in the "Attorney of the Day" program, representing domestic violence victims. Numerous members of the firm have successfully obtained dozens of protective orders for abused family members over the last year. Additionally, B&K lawyers have handled contested custody cases on behalf of indigent clients. Several of its attorneys have also participated in LSNV's housing clinic and uncontested divorce clinics. B&K's pro bono efforts extend to their transactional attorneys as well. B&K lawyers have provided corporate advice to a not for profit organization dedicated to helping veterans with disabilities find employment.
The firm has played an integral role in supporting, the "Pro Bono Hotline" for Northern Virginia and the "Ask- A-Lawyer" program, both joint ventures between legal aid organizations and the Young Lawyer's Division of the Virginia Bar Association. These hotlines were held at the offices of Blankingship & Keith, P.C. and facilitated advice and counsel for over 100 indigent clients.
