BLDG Health and See Me. See Diabetes. Launch Empowerment Movement
SOLANA BEACH, Calif., March 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- See Me. See Diabetes., led by diabetes psychologist, Dr. Susan Guzman, and BLDG Health found a welcoming reception at its launch at the Taking Control of Your Diabetes (TCOYD) event on March 7, 2015 in Santa Clara, CA. The movement is aimed at challenging misinformation and stereotypes of people with diabetes. Supported by a robust online community, See Me. See Diabetes. provides a platform for people living with diabetes (as well as allies) to share their stories, challenges, and victories.
"The need for this kind of community—one of support and encouragement—was palpable at TCOYD," says BLDG founder, Justin Gardner. "People living with diabetes want to connect, and feel understood and encouraged. That's what our movement is all about, and the success of our launch speaks to the need for a community like See Me. See Diabetes."
With the launch of the movement, See Me. See Diabetes. also launched its first challenge. The No "-IC" challenge encourages people to stop using the word "diabetic" to describe people living with diabetes, and share their stories with others in the community.
"The No '-IC' challenge empowers people living with diabetes to use the word 'diabetic' as an educational opportunity to take the time to explain what diabetes is and what they would like others to know about it," says Dr. Guzman. "It's all about defining people by who and what they are, not by their disease."
