Blockbuster Comics Plans To "Save The Comics" After Suffering Water Damage

BRANDON, Fla., Feb. 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In January 2015, William Insignares, owner of independent comic book store, Blockbuster Comics, walked into the storage room of his store to find that it was hit by what looked like a tidal wave of water.

Valuable merchandise including rare comic books dating back to the 1950's were ruined. Among the casualties were exclusive iconic comics and collectibles from Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Image Comics, and Sky Bound Entertainment.

"Inspired by comic book heroes, I decided to turn a bad situation into a good one," said William Insignares, a beloved comic book retailer in the Tampa Bay area for 23 years.

Although these comic books were destroyed and business suffered greatly, he is salvaging pages and covers from those precious comics.

Insignares met with Brandon artists, David Noll and Ivy Brown from SeriouslyFun LLC to immortalize these comic books. They will transform the front door of his store into a comic book pop-art showcase with bold and vibrant comic art. 

Noll will use a proprietary Mod Podge process to permanently seal the comics onto the door allowing all who walk through the plaza to enjoy the art. Noll has successfully transformed tables, lights and even glassware; however, a commercial size door will be his largest endeavor yet.

"We will showcase the comic book pop art and then donate the actual door to a non profit or museum. My hope is that I inspire others to save comics and art whenever possible," said Insignares.
