CARROLLTON, Texas, Sept. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In the often misunderstood world of federal Lifeline and California LifeLine service providers, there are several companies that offer service to those that qualify. Many people don't realize that September 12th-16th is National Telephone Discount Lifeline Awareness Week, or even know what Lifeline is, including those who do qualify. What is Lifeline? The federal Lifeline Program is an FCC program that was established in 1985 as part of the Universal Service Fund. California provides additional support for residents of the Golden State through its California LifeLine Program. Both programs help ensure that qualifying low-income consumers can afford phone service and the opportunities and security it provides. In March of 2016, the FCC modernized Lifeline by beginning a transition toward support of broadband service. Qualifying Blue Jay customers in California already have access to cellular data each month.
Blue Jay Wireless' mission statement is, "We distribute technology, which improves lives while empowering individuals to serve society," which is one of the key factors that sets them apart from their competitors, and they are seeing results in California, as well as nationwide. Blue Jay goes the extra mile, beyond the phone and enrollment, to #extendalifeline and make it possible for their customers to bridge the digital divide and eventually graduate from the California LifeLine Program to succeed in society. Many providers in the California LifeLine industry have no consistent presence in the communities that they are serving. Customers who have questions or needs, can't find their service representatives in their neighborhood after the original enrollment. Blue Jay is a part of the community, providing consistency and familiarity to those needing their service. Blue Jay began serving in the areas of Los Angeles, Oakland and San Diego earlier this year, and has stretched out to Sacramento, Fresno and Bakersfield, among others. Those communities are seeing the commitment that Blue Jay is putting forth to fill a need and make a difference in those neighborhoods.
Blue Jay representatives, known as Samaritans, serve the community by providing information and enrollment assistance to those that qualify for the service. Community is a fundamental element in Blue Jay's approach. In fact, Blue Jay Wireless proudly features a #giveaday initiative, where each employee gives at least one day every two weeks to volunteer in some way in the community. That work day becomes a #giveaday and employees find opportunities to volunteer and give back to society. Many employees at Blue Jay have a history of service in their backgrounds, whether it be previous volunteer or social work, or even as a veteran of the Armed Services. That track record of service to a greater cause is at the heart of the Blue Jay philosophy.
Blue Jay provides service in 18 states, including Puerto Rico, and is seeing increased growth throughout California. Blue Jay's commitment to providing technology, combined with their dedication to impact the community, allows them to soar high above the competition and be a leader in the industry.
