Bob's Red Mill Kicks-off Fourth Annual Spar for the Spurtle Oatmeal Recipe Contest
Creator of the Winning Recipe Will Receive $5,000
PORTLAND, Ore., June 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- For the fourth year, Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods has launched its search for the best oatmeal dish in the country. The leading provider of whole grain foods is calling on home cooks nationwide to submit their original oatmeal recipes in the Fourth Annual Spar for the Spurtle Oatmeal Recipe Contest. Entrants will compete for the grand prize of $5,000 and bragging rights for creating "America's Best Porridge."
The competition invites oatmeal enthusiasts to submit written original recipes and photos of the finished dishes. The recipes must make use of Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats® – the official "World's Best Oatmeal." From the entries, the top three will be selected, with $5,000 going to the grand prize winner, $2,500 to second place and $1,000 to third place.
"Oatmeal can be dressed up in so many unique and tasty ways," said Bob Moore, founder, president and CEO of employee-owned Bob's Red Mill. "We've seen such creative dishes in this contest over the years and can't wait to see what people come up with this year!"
Those interested in submitting a recipe should visit bobsredmill.com/spar-for-the-spurtle-2014. Recipes should take no longer than 30 minutes to prepare and should make use of only two stove-top burners. Winning dishes will be selected based upon creative use of Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats, originality and flavor.
Since 2009, Bob's Red Mill has won two world titles at the Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championship in Scotland, and the company will be returning to compete again this October (a spurtle is a Scottish cooking tool traditionally used to stir porridge). The company's competitors are looking to draw inspiration from the Spar for the Spurtle winners.
The deadline for recipe submissions is August 15, 11:59pm, Pacific time.
