CORAL SPRINGS, Fla., May 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Boca Pharmacal, Inc., today announced that it successfully donated 18,814 bottles of prescription multivitamins to Haiti in conjunction with Christian Aid Ministries, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that helps the needy throughout the world. Perhaps more importantly, the company has also been successful in seeing that the products are getting to where they are needed – in clinics and hospitals on the island.

"This has been a long time coming," said Robert Edwards, CEO of Boca Pharmacal. "After the earthquake hit Haiti in 2010, we felt compelled to help out and get medicine to the orphanages and clinics that were in need. The logistics turned out to be a tremendous challenge. The learning curve was high and it took time to figure out how to get the medication directly to the people who needed them the most. We've learned a lot about the supply chain and are encouraged about what we'll be able to do moving forward."
Boca Pharmacal is donating U.S. FDA-approved products that – while safe and effective – are typically destroyed by American companies because of limited dating or cosmetic imperfections.
"We see about 130 patients every day and vitamins are a large part of our therapy for those lacking in proper nutrition," said a representative of the Haiti Health Ministries in Leogane, Haiti. "One of our patients, Madame Dorelien, had been feeling weak lately and lacking in energy. The doctor prescribed a multivitamin for her. We are hopeful that this, in addition to eating properly, will bring her back to health."
Mr. Edwards is currently in the process of forming a nonprofit 501(c)(3) and is actively working with generic drug manufacturers to expand the program. He encourages other pharmaceutical companies interested in making large-scale pharmaceutical product donations to contact his team for information on how to participate.
