LONDON, June 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
On Monday 25 July, Ayr United will play against Manchester United XI for the first time. On the same day, the official launch of the 'The Ayre Strip' for the 2011-2012 season is also taking place … but in the age of social media, the shirt already has a life of its own.
Calvin Ayre, founder of the world's largest online betting brand, Bodog*, commented: "The Bodog Brand's marketing team tell me they've got models, fireworks, stunts and even Manchester United lined up for the official launch of the shirt on 25 July so they are all pretty embarrassed this is out there already."
Bodog Brand's red-faced PR man, Ed Pownall, added: "We now have to really up the ante for the official launch - everybody's now seen the shirt so how can we draw the attention to it again? There's a strong likelihood we will have to fall back on The Official Bodog Marketing Manual's advice: 'If in doubt, bring on hot girls.' "
Those that see Monday as a bad day, however, are in for a big re-think on 25 July as Ayr welcomes Bodog to town. There will be horseracing in the afternoon opening with the 'Bodog Backs Ayr United Stakes' (a race for maidens…seriously!) at 2.30 pm. Those with tickets for the evening match against the Manchester United XI will get free access to the race meeting so come and join us for some gamblin', drinkin' and carryin' on!
After racing finishes it's straight over to Somerset Park for a few pre-match drinks before Ayr spank Premiership Champions Manchester United at 7 pm. See you there.
