Bolthouse Farms Redefines The Traditional School Bake Sale With The Launch Of The "UnBake Sale" Initiative
UnBake Sales will put the spotlight on better-for-you snacks made of fruits and vegetables in line with the Smart Snacks in Schools guidelines
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Bolthouse Farms today announced the launch of the UnBake Sale initiative that will allow schools nationwide to continue to hold bake sales in accordance with the new Smart Snacks in Schools nutrition standards. The UnBake Sale initiative provides schools all the tools to host a fundraising event featuring better-for-you fun and delicious snacks made of fruits and vegetables.
"The launch of this initiative underscores our commitment as a company to make fruits and vegetables accessible and irresistible for kids to fight childhood obesity and help create a healthier America," said Jeff Dunn, President and CEO of Bolthouse Farms. "We're challenging schools and parents to rethink the traditional bake sale, and hope to inspire schools across the country to join in this movement."
The UnBake Sale initiative was created in response to the Smart Snacks in Schools standards that took effect in July 2014 as part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The regulation impacts all food and drink sold during the school day, including bake sales. UnBake Sales will allow schools to continue to raise much-needed funds while teaching kids healthy eating habits.
"The UnBake Sale initiative is a testament to the power of the private and public sector working together to build a healthier future," said Lawrence A. Soler, CEO of the Partnership for a Healthier America. "Bolthouse Farms is offering a creative solution that teaches healthy habits to our youth and makes fruits and vegetables the fun, healthy and easy choice."
Parents, teachers and school administrators are encouraged to visit TheUnBakeSale.com and join the "100 School Pledge." The first 100 schools to participate in the pledge will receive a starter kit from Bolthouse Farms that includes a $100 retailer gift card, recipe booklet featuring UnBake Sale snack items and UnBake Sale checklist to help them host an UnBake Sale in their school and participate in the movement to create a healthier generation. TheUnBakeSale.com features downloadable tools and do-it-yourself instructions including an UnBake Sale checklist, promotional materials, and recipes that meet the Smart Snacks in Schools nutrition standards.
"We are committed to fueling a fresh revolution and creating a healthier future for the next generation," said Suzanne Saltzman Ginestro, Chief Marketing Officer at Bolthouse Farms. "By bringing UnBake Sales into schools, we're helping kids see how fruits and vegetables can be fun and delicious while making it easy for parents and administrators to make healthier eating a priority."
In addition to participating in the UnBake Sale initiative, parents can get their kids excited about fruits and vegetables by incorporating delicious Bolthouse Farms Kids™ ready-made refrigerated snack items including tubes, smoothies and veggie snackers into their kids' meals and snacks. Bolthouse Farms Kids™ Fruit Tubes, squeezable, tubes of real fruit puree blends, Bolthouse Farms Kids™ Smoothies and Bolthouse Farms Kids™ Veggie Snackers, fun-sized carrot snacks with all natural seasoning, are perfect for snacking, school lunches or to sell at UnBake Sales.
