BoomStartup Applications Closing Soon for EdTech Accelerator
Renowned Utah-based seed accelerator closes applications on March 1st
SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- BoomStartup is accepting applications for its Education Technology accelerator program, set to begin on March 28th.
BoomStartup completed their inaugural EdTech cohort in November with the companies raising over $1.5 million. In addition, one of the eight companies is already negotiating an acquisition.
"I gained the most value from the network of BoomStartup mentors," said Peter Glenn, CrowdSchool CEO and 2015 BoomStartup EdTech graduate. "Meeting with executives from Pearson, PowerSchool, McGraw Hill, and notable EdTech startups helped us find our path so much more quickly towards engaging customers and building our business. The mentorship was invaluable."
Two of Utah's cities are named in Inc.'s "Top 20 US Cities for Tech Startup Funding," and Utah was number one for the second straight year in Forbes' "Best States for Business." Additionally, the state of Utah has a flourishing EdTech scene with companies such as Agilix, Degreed, Instructure, Kimono, Mastery Connect and Pluralsight.
"Utah is just an amazing environment for start-ups," Curt Roberts, Kickstart Seed Fund Ventures Partner said. "This is being recognized across the nation. We are continually impressed by the quality of companies we see and have the opportunity to fund and support."
A handful of the startups that apply will be invited to join the three-month program, during which they will hone their business model and create a minimal viable product, with the goal of securing funding at the end of the program from private investors, angel groups, venture capitalists, and others. The startups are supported by a network of mentors and investors, whom include former founders, executives, and experts from the tech and education fields.
Unlike most accelerators, the EdTech program will accept companies from anywhere in the world. Each startup will receive $20,000 in seed funding and over $400,000 of in-kind services.
With 81 percent of the alumni companies still operating, BoomStartup has an excellent track record helping startups reach the next level.
