Boot Camp on How to Get a Job in Advertising Returns to Atlanta
Publicis New York Sponsors Workshops to Prepare Multicultural Students for a Career in the Creative Industry
NEW YORK, Oct. 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- After its hugely successful career fair in New York earlier this month for multicultural students and young professionals interested in advertising titled "Where Are All the Black People? Part 2," The One Club is returning to Atlanta with its Creative Boot Camp on November 3-6.
Sponsored by Publicis New York for the second year in a row, with Getty Images as a Content Sponsor, the annual event draws students from the city's historically black colleges Morehouse College, Clark-Atlanta University and Spelman College, as well as students from Georgia State University, Westwood College, SCAD and the Art Institute of Atlanta.
"We are very excited to be heading back down to Atlanta with Publicis to host another Creative Boot Camp session," says Tiffany Edwards, Education and Diversity Director at The One Club. "Watching the progress of the students who participated in the 2010 session has been wonderful, with several of them moving on to be accepted into advertising programs like MAIP and the Marcus Graham Project, and some even getting jobs at local ad agencies like BBDO. I can't wait to see what this new group of creative talent brings to the table."
Rob Feakins, Chief Creative Officer, Publicis New York, stated, "Giving someone an opportunity is the biggest thing any company, regardless of industry, can provide today. But opportunity means nothing if you don't help train people for that moment. That's why we are so excited to once again partner with The One Club for the Creative Boot Camp."
The Creative Boot Camp includes lessons on how to think creatively, taught by top advertising educators, and workshops where students are given a brief and asked to develop and present an advertising campaign to a panel of judges on the final day. This year's brief is from Vicks, which is developing a new over-the-counter allergy drug. Several of the students who participated in last year's Atlanta Boot Camp have been accepted for internships and hired at major advertising agencies.
The four-day event includes creative mentors from several of Atlanta's leading agencies including: 22squared, JWT, Iconologic, Fitzgerald & Co., BBDO Atlanta and Moxie.
Upcoming Boot Camps will be held in Los Angeles on January 10-13, 2012 and New York on January 23-26.
