AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Nov. 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- BorgWarner provides its innovative GenV electro-hydraulically actuated all-wheel drive (AWD) coupling for the all-new XC90 luxury SUV from Volvo Cars based on the new scalable product architecture (SPA).
"We are proud to extend our long-standing, successful cooperation with Volvo Cars by delivering our market-leading AWD technology for Volvo's brand new XC90 SUV," said Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager, BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems. "BorgWarner's reliable AWD coupling contributes to enhanced traction, stability and handling, enabling a fun-to-drive experience with maximum performance as well as improved fuel economy."
BorgWarner adapted the integrated electronic control unit, including the vehicle dynamics software, to match Volvo's unique driving characteristics for the best possible fun-to-drive experience. The electronically controlled wet multi-plate clutch automatically varies torque distribution between the front and rear axle. Because the coupling functions independently of differential speed between the front and the rear axle, full locking torque is available at any given time and speed, depending on the road conditions and vehicle load distribution. The compact, lightweight design of the AWD coupling facilitates easier integration into the powertrain compared with previous generations while providing improved traction, handling and stability as well as high torque capacity and rapid response time.
BorgWarner Inc. (NYSE: BWA) is a product leader in highly engineered components and systems for powertrains around the world. Operating manufacturing and technical facilities in 57 locations in 18 countries, the company delivers innovative powertrain solutions to improve fuel economy, reduce emissions and enhance performance. BorgWarner's state-of-the-art GenV AWD coupling provides Volvo's XC90 with high torque accuracy, improved handling and stability for a fun-to-drive experience.
