AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- BorgWarner supplies the engine timing system and transmission components for the all-new 2011 Jeep® Grand Cherokee, the first vehicle to feature Chrysler Group LLC's all-new 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. Compared with its predecessor, the new 290-horsepower engine improves torque by 11 percent, horsepower by 38 percent and fuel economy by 11 percent, enabling the Grand Cherokee to deliver up to 23 mpg. The engine is built at Chrysler Group plants in Trenton, Michigan, and Saltillo, Mexico.

BorgWarner Morse TEC's timing system with silent chains delivers superior performance, industry-leading noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics, precision timing and durability. Joint development between Chrysler Group and Morse TEC engineers optimized the Pentastar system's performance and resulted in lower chain tensions as well as improved durability, NVH and engine efficiency.

In addition, the 2011 Jeep® Grand Cherokee's five-speed automatic transmission features high-energy friction plates and sprag one-way clutches supplied by BorgWarner Drivetrain Systems.
