BorgWarner to Supply Turbochargers for JCB Power Systems Used in the Off-Highway Market

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., May 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BorgWarner (NYSE: BWA) has been selected by JCB Power Systems to supply both wastegate and variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbochargers for the new versions of its Dieselmax 4.4-Liter engines starting in 2012. Designated the JCB  'Ecomax T4', it is a four-cylinder inline mid-range diesel offering power ratings from 55 kW to 130 kW in numerous applications like agricultural, construction, and materials handling machinery. BorgWarner's turbocharger technology will help this new engine meet stringent Interim Tier 4/Stage III B regulations without the need for exhaust aftertreatment or (DPF) Diesel Particulate Filters. These regulations require up to a 50% reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions compared with previous standards.

The lower 55 kW rated engine will utilize a BorgWarner fixed geometry turbocharger with integral wastegate boost control, but for the higher ratings JCB will use BorgWarner's new BV55 VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) turbocharger technology.  The BV55 VTG features a high durability brushless actuator specifically designed and manufactured by BorgWarner for use in heavy duty turbochargers and EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valves. JCB selected BorgWarner's BV55 VTG turbocharger for the fuel economy, emission compliance, and transient performance benefits it offers.  Equally important in the selection was the robust design and reliability attributes of the BV55 for demanding off-highway applications where the Ecomax T4 engines are used.

BorgWarner engineers worked closely with JCB Power Systems to optimize the charge air system design. BorgWarner's BV55 VTG turbocharger offers optimum low-speed engine torque characteristics and precise control of engine boost and EGR rate to reduce NOx and particulate matter emissions.
