Mr. Smith joins Bowie & Jensen's Litigation and Employment Law Practice Groups and has practiced in law firm, corporate, government, and university environments spanning a 35 year career. 

Mr. Smith advises clients and has successfully represented them in litigation in matters pertaining to employment discrimination, wrongful termination, wage-hour disputes, workplace safety, collective bargaining, unfair labor practices, labor arbitrations, and employee benefits. He also represents clients in connection with commercial and construction law disputes. Mr. Smith's clients have included businesses in telecommunications, grocery, agricultural, retail clothing, transportation, warehouse, commercial real estate, construction, computer, finance, consulting, government contracts, and manufacturing industries. He has also represented universities and higher education officials.

Mr. Smith earned a juris doctor degree at the University of Chicago School of Law (1975), an LLM degree at Georgetown University Law Center (1985), and a Bachelor of Arts degree at Colgate University (1970).  He has published articles in the field of labor and employment law and other subjects and has been invited to speak at numerous seminars for attorneys and corporate officials.  Mr. Smith is also the recipient of the Samuel E. Klein Pro Bono Award for exceptional pro bono activities, including the representation of Afghan nationals detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
