Breaux Vineyards Secures Coveted Spot on Oz Clarke's '250 Best Wines 2012'
Britain's famed wine writer and broadcaster honors Virginia winery with top-100 ranking
PURCELLVILLE, Va., Feb. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Nestled in the Virginia hills, Breaux Vineyards may be a newcomer on the map of North American winemaking, but it has quickly gained international recognition as being more than fertile ground for quality grapes. The winery has been consistently producing first-rate wines - notably a collection of Viogniers that has received praise from Oz Clarke, Britain's most famous wine writer and broadcaster.
Clarke, who holds the "World Wine Tasting Champion" title among other wine-related claims to fame, recently ranked the Breaux Vineyards Viognier #87 in his new book, 250 Best Wines 2012. The Breaux Vineyards Viognier is one of only three United States wines ranked in the top 250, despite the fact that the U.S. is the fourth largest wine-producing country in the world. Securing such a highly coveted spot on Clarke's list is nothing short of an extreme honor for the emerging brand and region, not to mention the people behind it, says Jennifer Breaux Blosser, Breaux Vineyards' Director of Sales.
"There's something special about Virginia wines, particularly when it comes to Viognier," Blosser says. "With an outstanding collection of flavorful classics, Virginia wines are holding their own with the best in the international marketplace, and we're thrilled to be selected with this latest recognition."
While Clarke has a clear gift for choosing great wines, he's passionate about his professionalism and has tasted from thousands of bottles and barrels over the years. Recently, he's honed in on the superiority of Virginia Viogniers and highlighted the foothold that they are now securing worldwide. Clarke recently wrote about Virginia Viogniers in the Oz Clarke Pocket Wine Guide 2011: "My most thrilling discovery in the USA this year has been the wine from vineyards spread around Washington, DC, in particular those of Virginia, whose sumptuous, scented Viogniers are world-class" (as blogged on Dave McIntyre's WineLine).
Top wine experts are chatting about Breaux Viognier, helping to fuel an unquenchable thirst for Virginia wines. One such expert, Master of Wine and personal wine advisor to Queen Elizabeth II, Jancis Robinson, has taken note as well. In a Sept. 2011 Financial Times article, Robinson recommended Breaux Viognier as one of her top 12 picks (and the only Viognier on the list) from Virginia.
In addition to actively building its brand across the United States, with the help of importer New Horizon Wines (www.newhorizonwines.com), Breaux Vineyards continues to win over wine drinkers worldwide, and is helping pave the way for Virginia wines internationally as well.
