BrightBytes Wins Global EdTech Startup Competition
SpongeLab and Edpuzzle came in 2nd and 3rd, in a competition initiated by 6 EdTech accelerators and incubators from around the world

BrightBytes is "The Most Promising EdTech Start Up in 2014" - this was announced yesterday (Monday) at the conclusion of the finals event of the Global EdTech Start up competition, which took place in Tel-Aviv, Israel.
US-based BrightBytes uses in-depth analysis to power a business intelligence and decision support framework. Its award-winning platform, Clarity for Schools, distills this research into educative, engaging, and actionable data that links educational technology use to changes in learning outcomes, enabling educational leaders to assess the impact of technology on student achievement.
2nd place went to SpongeLab (Canada), 3rd place to EdPuzzle (U.S) and the title for "Crowd Favorite" went to Nittio Learn (India). A total of 360 companies from around the world applied to compete.
The competition was initiated by the Israeli-based EdTech accelerator MindCET, which partnered with leading incubators: EdTech Incubator, London; Socratic Labs, New York; P.A.U. Education, Barcelona; Inncubated, Bogota; and the European Union's Open Education Challenge.
The three winners will get free acceptance to the incubators which partnered in this competition, where they will enjoy office space and facilities, mentoring and guidance, over a total period of four months.
The judges included Prof. Daniel Zajfman, President of the Weizmann Institute; David Weinberger, Co-director, Harvard Library Innovation Lab; Governor Bob Wise, President of the Alliance for Excellent Education; Gila Ben-Har, CEO of the Israeli Center for Educational Technology (CET); Meir Brand, Country manager, Israel, Greece and Sub-Saharan Africa, Google; Ana Carla Pereira, Head of Unit in Directorate General Education and Culture of the European Commission; Frank Bonsal III, an edupreneur, mentor and investor; Renee Hobbs, Director at Harrington School of Communication in Rhode Island; Rachel Brujis, Director, Efficacy, Partner Markets at Pearson; and Paul-René Albertini, Chairman at Sushi Venture Partners.
