Britain's Favourite Meerkat Sponsors Coronation Street on ITV
LONDON, November 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
- Meerkats land on Weatherfield cobblestones -
Britain's favourite meerkat, Aleksandr Orlov, founder of comparethemeerkat.com, and his meerkat friends today took a sneaky peak around the set of Coronation Street, before the start of his sponsorship of ITV's iconic soap.
From Monday 26th November, viewers will be able to see the entrepreneur and his fellow meerkats exploring Weatherfield during the ad breaks of the soap.
The Meerkat business entrepreneur decided to sponsor Britain's most popular soap as part of his on-going bid to help people understand the difference between comparethemarket.com and comparethemeerkat.com and stop them from clogging up his website by looking for good deals on insurance.
"I was flick through satellites channels and what did I stumble on? Popular UK programming Coronations Street. Before I knew it, I was glue to telebox. Then it hit me why not sponsor most popular soap in UK to help teach peoples the difference?"
The sponsorship follows the launch last year of the Meerkat Toy Collection, which rewards those who know the difference between meerkat and market with a free meerkat toy. Over a million toys have been claimed and the cuddly meerkats have now become collector's items.
To celebrate the sponsorship and to pay homage to the Manchester-based soap, the Meerkovo villagers have even created their own special polka version of the legendry Coronation Street theme tune. To date the video has had over 2.2million views. To view the video visit
