MARION, Ind., Nov. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Indiana Assisted Living Association (INALA) awarded two Brookdale Marion associates with top honors at the INALA awards lunch, held in Indianapolis, Indiana, in October. Rebekah Power, lead resident care associate, was named Caregiver of the Year and Teresa Wallace, health and wellness director, was named Outstanding Nurse Leader of the Year.
"The passion these ladies have for what they do sets them apart," said Ashley Woodcox, executive director of Brookdale Marion. "They are inspiring to all of us. We consider ourselves lucky to work with these leaders."
Power has been with Brookdale for eight years and Woodcox says she cares for residents like they are her own family. They love and trust her because she does what she can to meet their individual needs and preferences. For example, Power folds her residents' laundry and puts it away how they like it. Her care for the residents is top notch and she's truly an asset to our team, Woodcox said.
Wallace has also been a Brookdale associate for eight years and spent her first several years as the night shift charge nurse before moving into her role as Health and Wellness Director. She spends time visiting residents in the hospital and even makes them their favorite treats. She's always involved in the lives of residents and finds a way to say, "yes." She goes above and beyond the normal call of duty and it's not unusual to receive calls from family members complimenting her, said Woodcox.
Power says, "I'm shocked I was even nominated, but extremely honored. I am blessed to have a job that I love."
The "say yes" attitude and thankful spirit is what makes these associates exceptional at their roles. They treat every resident with compassion, love and respect, Woodcox said.
"I love our residents and their families," said Wallace. "I will go the extra mile for each and every one of our residents, if that makes a difference in their lives."
INALA's Outstanding Caregiver Award honors direct care staff and the Outstanding Nurse Leader award honors exceptional nurse leadership. These award winners have provided outstanding care and demonstrated through words and deeds an excellent commitment to those entrusted to their care, according to INALA officials.
