EDINA, Minn., Dec. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Minnesota State Demographer's Office indicates that the number of seniors in Minnesota will soon outnumber that of schoolchildren. With this growing population to serve, Brookdale Edina continues to remodel to meet the needs of seniors in a $30 million expansion project that will bring with it new options for senior living as well as new jobs to the area.
Officially completed December 1, the community has remodeled independent living and assisted living apartments throughout the building and added 36 memory care units to its offerings, allowing Brookdale Edina to care for people with Alzheimer's or other dementias. Reservations are currently being taken for all apartments, including six luxury penthouse apartments that are part of the community's independent living features.
The new memory care units will feature the Clare Bridge program of Alzheimer's care developed by Brookdale Senior Living. Clare Bridge focuses on providing meaningful, enjoyable daily life for those in dementia's middle to later stages through activities and events tailored to individual interests.
The construction project also adds a new main lobby, bistro, library, dining room and activity area to the community as common areas for residents and their guests.
"Clearly, the demand for high-quality senior care and service options will continue to grow," said Ronald Donacik, executive director of Brookdale Edina. "By increasing our size and scope, we can serve more seniors and provide a greater range of options for their care. This means even as their needs may change, our residents can remain here in the community that has become their home.
"This expansion has been designed to meet the evolving needs and desires of today's seniors," Donacik continued. "We're excited about enhancing the lives of our residents by offering seniors and their families these lovely new accommodations and amenities as well as a broader spectrum of services."
While the new units will be available soon after the beginning of the new year, appointments for tours of the renovated community are available now by calling 612-638-5300.
