WASHINGTON, July 25, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Bruce E. Thompson, Jr., a recognized expert in financial services and taxation with more than three decades of experience in public policy issues, has become a Vice President at Van Scoyoc Associates Inc.

Mr. Thompson's background includes major assignments in private practice, with Congress, and in the Executive Branch. The Washington Post once described him as "the dean of lobbyists for the financial services industry."

For 22 years, Mr. Thompson was Managing Director and Senior Director of Global Government Relations at Merrill Lynch. He directed strategy on legislative and executive policy for the firm and the financial services industry worldwide.
Mr. Thompson worked on the creation of the Roth IRA, financial services reform, and capital gains and dividend tax rate changes.
Previously, he served as Assistant Secretary of Treasury for Legislative Affairs during the 1980s and was awarded the Alexander Hamilton Award, the Department's highest honor. During the Reagan Administration, he was the Treasury Department's representative to Congress and worked on every major tax initiative, including the Tax Reform Act of 1986. And for seven years, Mr. Thompson worked as the chief policy advisor on taxes to the late U.S. Sen. William V. Roth, R-Del.
Mr. Thompson holds a degree in Finance from Georgetown University.
