BT Delivers Vision of Intelligent Supply Chain at LogiPharma Conference
BOSTON, Oct. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In the near future, packaging and transport equipment will become "self aware," leading to total end-to-end visibility as goods move through the supply chain, according to BT.
"Future supply chains will use computing models that allow products and packaging to communicate with point-of-sale and warehouse terminals, supplier portals, logistics assets, and other points throughout the chain. This will create true end-to-end supply chain visibility," according to Jim deMin, senior consultant at BT, speaking at the LogiPharma conference in Boston.
End-to-end visibility gives the ability to maintain real-time, on-shelf store inventories. It makes it possible to automatically record and register product warranty or return data, alert consumers to past-date products in their medicine cabinet, and connect to a wide range of web-based services.
"In simple terms, with advanced analytics and new cloud-computing architectures, this intelligence can be translated into action. Our systems, processes and infrastructures will become more efficient, more productive and more responsive - in a word, smarter," deMin said.
Bas Burger, President, Global Commerce, BT Global Services said: "Our vision of a smarter supply chain shows how BT can help pharmaceutical companies and other organizations with complex supply chain needs. They can benefit from BT's industry focused assets in product portfolio, solution design and infrastructure. And we're there to support our customers with sector-specific customer management and service teams."
BT's solutions for the pharmaceuticals sector have successfully been delivered to many of the leading global players. They have been tested and rolled out in some major projects in the industry.
Burger said: "Our customers can leverage our market-leading assets to benefit from intelligent supply chains. We have a track record of helping some of the world's biggest pharma companies thrive in a changing world."
