Build Burundi Project to Empower Education Through Crowdfunding in Burundi
~ Aims to raise $6450 to set up a solar powered computer lab and library for the students of Mubimbi Community School ~
BUJUMBURA, Burundi, June 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
BIEN, a non profit organization based out of Burundi, officially announced the launch date of its new pro-education, crowd-funded project - BUILD Burundi.
Believing in the power of education to create opportunities, the project aspires to utilize technology to overcome the scarcity for teaching resources in Africa, one school at a time.
Launched on 4th June, the crowdfunding campaign begins with the Mubimbi Community School and aims to raise funds for a Computer Lab, a Satellite internet connection a two year unlimited internet subscription, a digital library with ample educational materials for students, a multimedia library with educational videos and recorded lectures, web cameras to enable virtual classrooms and a solar powered suite to power the entire lab.
"We welcome the 'Build Burundi' initiative, a non-profit, fundraising project that will allow schools in the rural areas of Burundi to be connected to the World as well as gain access to e-education benefits through the internet", said Ambassador Joseph Bangurambona, Director General of the Agency of Regulation and Control of Telecommunications (ARCT), Burundi, on the occasion of the announcement.
"We are delighted that BIEN has chosen to partner with us for the Build Burundi project, which is in-line with our Social Responsibility goal to empower development in the region through increased connectivity", added Murali Krishna, Country Manager of Swiftsat ISP, the technology partners for the project.
With the support of its technology partner, BUILD Burundi would provide computer training for the school faculty, the students as well as the parents thereby helping the community as a whole.
The project aims to raise a modest 6450 dollars through the crowdfunding website - Indiegogo, for the Mubimbi Community School and donations start from as little as ten dollars with interesting 'perks' for all donors.
