Bumphus Appointed to National Advisory Board

WASHINGTON, Feb. 13, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Walter G. Bumphus, president and CEO of the American Association of Community Colleges, has been appointed to serve on the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board (Advisory Board). The Advisory Board was formed to advise the National Council for the American Worker (NCAW) established by President Trump last year. The NCAW is charged to create a comprehensive national workforce strategy to ensure that America's workers are equipped to succeed in the jobs of today and of the future.

The Advisory Board will advise the NCAW in the development and implementation of a national, holistic workforce strategy to ensure that America's students and workers have access to affordable, relevant, and innovative education and job training.

Bumphus will represent the nation's community colleges that provide critical workforce education for millions of students across the country.

The Advisory Board is comprised of experts appointed from diverse fields and organizations. In addition to community colleges, members include representatives from Fortune 500 companies, universities, trade associations, organized labor, nonprofits, and government. Recommendations made by the Advisory Board will help guide the NCAW's work to establish a national campaign promoting education pathways, recommend specific actions for improving labor market data to better identify needed skills and competencies for obtaining meaningful work, and increase transparency and public/private investments in education.
