BOSTON, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Faculty, students, and staff from Bunker Hill Community College showcased their "Living Campus Initiative" at Boston's Greenfest, held August 20-21st. More than 55,000 people visited the two-day festival celebrating the benefits of green, sustainable practices.

The College's exhibit featured a working hydroponic garden with live plants. The BHCC team distributed information on academic programs as well as packets of wildflower seeds and cookies the College's culinary department baked with local ingredients.

"The Bunker Hill Community College displays far exceeded my expectations and contributed greatly to the success of Greenfest," said Karen Weber, Greenfest Event Manager. "BHCC is taking the lead in sustainability by participating in this event. I hope that other Boston based schools can learn from their example."

BHCC President Mary L. Fifield is a charter signatory of the Presidents Climate Commitment, a document which endorses the commitment of 674 college and university presidents to reduce their campus carbon footprints. BHCC recently appointed its first Director of Sustainability, Paul J. Wolff III, who managed BHCC's participation in the Boston Greenfest 2010 event.

Bunker Hill Community College is the largest community college in Massachusetts. The College enrolls more than 12,000 students on two campuses and at four satellite locations. BHCC is one of the most diverse institutions of higher education in Massachusetts. Six in ten students are people of color and more than half of BHCC's students are women. The College also enrolls more than 700 international students who come from more than 90 countries and speak 75 different languages.
