Burke And Quick Partners Launches Equity Research Platform
Led by Veteran Research Analysts Stephen Bersey, Michael Taiano, and Frederick Moran
NEW YORK, July 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Burke and Quick Partners, LLC, a leading independent agency-only execution and research broker, announced today that it has launched its equity research platform and has hired Stephen Bersey, Michael Taiano, and Frederick Moran as senior research analysts. Bersey initiated coverage of the Enterprise Software sector on June 18 including Ansys Inc. (ANSS), Ultimate Software (ULTI), PTC Inc. (PTC), and Autodesk, Inc. (ADSK). Taiano initiated research coverage of the Consumer and Specialty Finance sector on June 10 including American Express (AXP), Sallie Mae (SLM), Alliance Data Systems (ADS), Discover Financial (DFS), Cash America, Inc. (CSH) and First Cash Financial (FCFS). Moran will join the firm on July 14, 2014 and will cover the Internet and eCommerce sectors.
Burke and Quick Partners was founded in 2011 by James "Jimmy" Burke, Peter Quick and Christopher Quick. The firm exists today as the legacy of Quick and Reilly institutional equities business. The firm is building research capabilities as asset managers increasingly rely on sell-side research for investment information and idea generation, according to a recent Greenwich Associates study. Additional research analyst and research sales hires are expected in the coming months.
Mr. Bersey returns to sell-side research after a year as a software systems consultant at Grant Thornton (GT), advising clients within GT's Business Advisory Services group. His prior sell-side affiliations include CL King, Bear Stearns, Citigroup, and SG Cowan. Mr. Bersey also spent several years as a buy-side software specialist at Deutsche Asset Management and Mitsubishi UFJ. Prior to Wall Street, Mr. Bersey spent more than a decade in the technology industry as a member of the technical staff at Bellcore, and as a design engineer at Allied Signal Aerospace. Mr. Bersey received an MBA from NYU's Stern School of Business and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Mr. Taiano joins the firm from Coleman Research Group where he headed that firm's business and financial services vertical within its GRI unit. Prior to Coleman, Mr. Taiano was a senior sell-side research analyst covering diversified financial companies at Telsey Advisory Group, Sandler O'Neill Partners and UBS. Mr. Taiano, who is a CPA, is a graduate of Pace University and received his MBA from the University of Florida.
Mr. Moran is a 25 year veteran of Wall Street, having served as both an equity research analyst and portfolio manager. Prior to his recent stint as the Chief Financial Officer of an early stage health and wellness company, Mr. Moran founded Worthian Capital Management LLC and served as the fund's Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager. Prior to establishing Worthian, he served as a Managing Director heading Internet, Media & Communications equity research teams at The Benchmark Company, Stanford Group, Jefferies & Company and Furman Selz LLC. His prior affiliations include Salomon Brothers, Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette and Drexel Burnham Lambert. Mr. Moran ranked as an eight-time stock picking All-Star Analyst by The Wall Street Journal. Mr. Moran is a graduate of The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
