Burton Construction Impacts Houston with New Center for The Women's Home
HOUSTON, May 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Burton Construction, a forerunner in Houston's commercial construction industry and the firm behind Houston landmarks like CityCentre, Spring Valley Medical Plaza and Levy Park, has partnered with The Women's Home to create a new 30,000 square foot multi-purpose facility. The facility lies within the Spring Branch campus of The Women's Home's at 1839 Jacquelyn Road and will serve their tenants and surrounding community.
When completed, the facility will open as the Mabee WholeLife® Service Center. The interior will include multiple meeting rooms and classrooms for programs such as workforce development guidance provided by Memorial Assistance Ministries. It will also include a computer laboratory, an 1,800 square foot fine arts room and several multi-purpose rooms that will house community programs such as after school services provided by the YMCA of Greater Houston. Additionally, the Spring Branch Community Health Center will operate a 6,000 square foot clinic onsite.
"The scope of this whole project is truly a community endeavor and was determined by a needs assessment we conducted in 2013," said Mike Shirl, Chief Operating Officer for The Women's Home. "The demand for these types of facilities is so much higher than what's available today."
The new building's façade will mirror two adjacent apartment complexes operated by The Women's Home. Decorative white trusses will arch over the roofline, while brick-clad walls provide a stately, elegant exterior. In addition to interior spaces, Burton Construction is creating a 14,000 square foot greenspace that encompasses an outdoor classroom certified by the Nature Explore Program. The outdoor space will be utilized by DePelchin Children's Center as space for behavioral health services.
"We were attracted to Burton Construction because of their honesty, integrity and transparency," said Shirl. "We're very neighborhood oriented and we needed a construction company that had proven itself to be honorable and trustworthy with both its subcontractors and the community at large."
Dedication ceremonies for the MabeeWholeLife® Service Center will take place on October 26, 2017. In keeping with Burton Construction's long-held commitment to the environment, The Mabee WholeLife® Center is expected to be LEED Silver certified.
"While this center will play an important role in serving the needs of the community, it's also a place where people will feel comfortable and welcomed," said Juan Ospina, Vice President of Burton Construction. "We are honored to be a part of this project."
