Bushwick Indie Film Star Yanillys Perez to Walk the Red Carpet at Cannes

NEW YORK, May 10 /PRNewswire/ --  Fresh from her appearance at the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) conference where Yanillys Perez premiered the BUSHWICK trailer, the Dominican actress will walk the red carpet at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival when she attends Olivier Assayas' Carlos the Jackal premiere, as part of her supporting role in the film. While in Cannes, Perez will premiere at the Marche Du Cannes the indie movie Bushwick, which cast her as the female lead.

Perez, selected out of the hundreds of actresses who auditioned for Bushwick, to play the female protagonist, has become a roving ambassador for the film, written and directed by New York-based Luis Landivar.

"I have learned a lot working with Luis.  He has a unique way of taking you back into character if at any time you seem to lose yourself. Having attended the lavish parties and events at Cannes last year, my walking the Red Carpet this time around will be a dream come true. And I get to present Bushwick to distributors at Marche Du Cannes, on behalf of Luis," she said.

Landivar expressed his deep appreciation for his star's staunch support of Bushwick, a movie he produced with his savings and the financial backing of private investors, friends and family. Bushwick, shot on location in the industrial core of Bushwick, Brooklyn, is in the classic crime action drama genre with mainstream appeal especially for Latino and Asian audiences with star-making turns by its largely undiscovered talented cast.

Bushwick's Stellar Word-of-Mouth

After putting his blood, sweat, tears and money in writing, directing and producing Bushwick, Landivar has been strategically and aggressively pursuing the right distributor. International word-of-mouth about the movie has been stellar: YouTube documents that the Bushwick teaser surpassed 1 million views and reached top 5 status in Colombia, Brazil, Mexico and other Latin American countries. It has 10,000 Bushwick fans on Facebook. Landivar's interviews about his passion in creating Bushwick have been featured in the New York Daily News, La Nacion Dominicana, Brazilian Times, The Filipino Reporter, on Time Warner Cable and on News 12 Brooklyn on Cablevision.

Landivar said that, while his expectation is to secure an advance deal for his film, he is prepared to partner with other distributors to ensure the widest possible audience for the movie's international cast. In addition to Yanillys, Bushwick features Brazilian Diego Kelman Ajuz as lead actor; Americans Erika Robel and Matthew McCurdy; Puerto Rican Edgar Caraballo; German Anabelle Munro and Filipino-American Jennifer Presno.

The target release window for Bushwick is late summer/early fall. At present, Landivar is leveraging his existing resources using a Web 2.0 platform to market the film.  And, of course, working with his stars, like Yanillys Perez, who volunteers passionately to serve as Bushwick ambassador.
