This IDC Energy Insights study provides an analysis of the results of the annual IDC Energy Insights Survey, focusing on the oil and gas industry and 38 interviews carried out between August and September 2013. The objective is to understand IT budget allocation and evolution as well as the criteria for selection and satisfaction with primary IT suppliers among oil and gas enterprises in Western Europe. It also includes an analysis of enterprise and line-of-business (LOB) solutions investment plans in the near future and the propensity of oil and gas firms to leverage the four pillars of the 3rd Platform -- mobility, Big Data, social media, and cloud.
"Western Europe oil and industry companies are confident that they have weathered the storm," said Gaia Gallotti, research manager, IDC Energy Insights."Specifically in the next 12 months, 50.4% of oil and gas companies surveyed expect to increase their ICT budgets. Additionally, 22.4% and 12.6% of their IT budgets are expected to be dedicated to growth and innovation, respectively, while a diminishing 65% will be allocated to compliance/maintain/run."
