Businesses Seek To Minimize The Effects Of Disaster Through Sustainability
NEW YORK, Oct. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The New York and New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council will be holding its annual Sustainability Symposium on Thursday October 9, 2014. Hosted by American International Group (AIG) at their offices in lower Manhattan, this year's symposium will be focused on disaster preparedness, response and recovery.
Panelists and speakers representing a wide variety of industries, as well as the New York City Mayor's office will discuss why they chose to work with companies that include sustainability in their business mission, and how it has become a value proposition; the importance of accurately reporting environmental initiatives; advances in technology, resources and assistance aimed at helping businesses recover from major storms like Hurricane Sandy, and reducing the impact of future storms.
"Sustainability has gone beyond the conversation about Global warming." Says Erica Cornier, Associate Director at the New York and New Jersey MSDC. "The growing frequency of devastating storms has made it much more critical to think about the risks associated with being unprepared."
Diana Domenech, Director of Supplier Diversity, Sustainability, & Strategy at AIG also views sustainability as a business imperative. "When suppliers understand and mitigate the risks their customers face when operations are interrupted, they can create a competitive edge setting them apart from their competitors."
Companies participating in the summit include: AIG, Agrion Americas, Colgate-Palmolive, Con Edison, National Grid, Prudential, Rutgers Business School, Tyga Box Systems, Inc., and Zones.
