WILMINGTON, Del., Oct. 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Butamax™ Advanced Biofuels, the leading global biobutanol technology development company, announced that last week Fuel Product Manager James Baustian discussed the integration of biobutanol gasoline blends in retail fuel dispensing systems at the Petroleum Equipment Institute Convention. "Butamax has been working closely with federal and state agencies to ensure biobutanol complies with regulatory requirements and we are on the path towards receiving all of the necessary approvals for commercialization of biobutanol as a transportation fuel," said Jim Baustian, Butamax Fuel Product Manager. "As part of the compliance effort, Butamax is engaged in comprehensive test programs to develop compatibility data identified by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) as needed for evaluating the suitability of biobutanol in fuel dispensing equipment."
UL is a global independent safety science company providing engineering standards, testing, and certification listings for fuel dispensing equipment. UL certifications are required by retail site insurers, construction codes, and regulations at both state and federal levels.
Jim Baustian also co-authored two technical papers presented at last month's SAE 2012 International Powertrains, Fuels and Lubricants Meeting in Sweden. The peer-reviewed papers presented findings from technical studies of biobutanol blends in two key vehicle performance dimensions: permeation emissions and cold-start driveability. The data reported will be useful for both regulators and especially vehicle manufacturers, and demonstrates Butamax's commitment to progress the knowledge and understanding of biobutanol as a drop-in biofuel among stakeholders throughout the value chain.
