C Spire to unveil first phase of Tech Movement initiative aimed at transforming Mississippi through technology

WHAT:

News media are invited to attend a press conference this morning where C Spire executives will announce a major company initiative aimed at giving consumers and businesses the technology tools they need to be successful in the new digital economy.

How do you solve a problem?  You get out in front of it.  How do you ensure that Mississippi is part of the technology revolution and doesn't get left behind?  You boldly propose one of the largest technology projects and private sector initiatives in the state's history – plans to connect more than 250,000 consumers and small businesses to ultra-fast broadband Internet – one of the key pieces to the foundation of our country's new technology economy.

That's exactly what C Spire will be doing this morning during a historic 10 a.m. press conference at its Ridgeland headquarters when the company unveils its Tech Movement program, which is designed to prepare and equip consumers and businesses to be successful in the new digital economy.  The program is a continuation of C Spire's 2013 groundbreaking Fiber-to-the-Home initiative, one of the first of its type in the U.S. and the fastest to connect thousands of Mississippi consumers in nine communities around the state to ultra-fast Gigabit speed Internet access, digital television and home phone services.

Key senior executives from C Spire, including CEO Hu Meena, President Stephen Bye and Senior Vice President Suzy Hays, will outline the company's plans, which will be rolled out in phases starting today.  The plans already have drawn widespread support and approval from U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, Innovate Mississippi President and CEO Tony Jeff, Mississippi Economic Development Council Executive Director Mary Swoope and Fiber Broadband Association President and CEO Heather Burnett Gold.
