Cale America and Gtechna Team Up to Bring Innovative Parking Solution to Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Cale America Inc., in partnership with Gtechna Inc., will provide the Public Parking Authority of Pittsburgh (PPAP) with an integrated real-time pay-by-license plate and eCitation enforcement solution. Cale America Inc. and Gtechna recently implemented a similar structure in Whistler, Canada making paying for parking easier for customers with a pay by license plate / ANPR (Automated Number Plate Recognition) system. In 2010, this pay-by-license-plate technology was also piloted by Washington DC. Cale has similar pay-by-plate meter systems installed in Calgary and Amsterdam, but this is the first system of this scale in the United States.

Parking enforcement is much more efficient and accurate with the pay-by-license-plate system and Gtechna's innovative software for the Parking Authority's handheld devices. Once a customer has made their purchase, enforcement handhelds are updated within 5 seconds of any payment. "Tight integration between Cale meters and Gtechna eCitation software simplifies the parking process for both PEOs (Parking Enforcement Officers) and parkers," states Gtechna president and CEO Michel Guay. The new pay-by-license-plate technology provides many advantages to customers. After purchasing time from the meter, customers do not have to return to their vehicles to display a receipt. Receipts are available, but are optional and are not required for compliance. In addition, customers are now able to pay at any pay station in each rate zone for added convenience. With these enhancements and the added option for credit card payment, the meter upgrade project has received much praise from the Pittsburgh business community as well.
