California Insurance Agents Call Silly the Much Ado About Nothing Consumer Watchdog Scare Tactic
SACRAMENTO, Calif., July 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- California independent insurance agents and brokers, consumer advocates who are committed to shopping for the best deal for their clients, renounce Consumer Watchdog's press release on campaign web addresses today as much ado about nothing.
"The consultants purchased domain names when the designations of the 2012 state ballot measures were unclear and subject to litigation in California courts," said Mike D'Arelli with the American Agents Alliance, and the proponent of Proposition 33. "The Yes on Proposition 33 campaign will turn over the URL's we reserved that are not applicable to Yes on Proposition 33. We never expected to silence anyone. One thing we agree on is that you cannot stop the shrill bark of Consumer Watchdog. They are making a big deal out of nothing."
Californians with car insurance earn a discount for following the law. But if you switch companies, you lose the discount. Proposition 33 fixes this by allowing consumers to keep this reward when they shop for a better deal with a new company.
Wealthy lawyer Harvey Rosenfield opposes Proposition 33 – he gets paid to. State records show that his front group "Consumer Watchdog" earns millions of dollars in exclusive lobbying fees from the Department of Insurance.
Proposition 33 is supported by both Democratic and Republican leaders, including, CDF Firefighters, Veterans of Foreign Wars of California, the American GI Forum and the California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
