California Officials Caught on Tape in D.C. Capitol Hill Meetings

Full Disclosure Network® Online Video Preview

WASHINGTON, June 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Video reveals the public and media were barred from attending five of the "officially noticed" meetings of the L.A. County Board of Supervisors held this May 5th and 6th.  The meetings were held in the D.C. offices of Senators and members of Congress under a little known provision of the California Government Code  54954 (b)(5) that allows the Board to meet outside it's jurisdiction at its discretion.

PROMPTED BY CALIFORNIA BUDGET CRISIS?

In search of funding, many California officials are concerned about insolvency.  This online  video preview  is part of a Full Disclosure Network government accountability report to uncover how taxpayer funded  Capitol Hill meetings are conducted.  Elaborately planned months in advance, the excursion  involved at least a dozen high ranking L.A. County administrators who accompanied the Supervisors and included the County's Chief Executive Officer William Fujioka and County Counsel Andrea Ordin who were on hand to discuss the official agenda items with Senators and Congress members. When Full Disclosure's reporter Janet Levy showed up to the meetings with camera crew in tow, the scrambling began. Watch the video here: http://www.fulldisclosure.net/Programs/567.php

CALIFORNIA BROWN ACT "OPEN MEETING LAW" VIOLATIONS

County Supervisors had scheduled ten meetings with Senate and Congressional offices and the White House for the two day event.  The Brown Act prohibits more than two Supervisors from attending a meeting unless it is open to the public and media. Federal officials are not subject to the law.

CAPITOL HILL MEETINGS

The meetings scheduled were held in the Capitol Hill offices of Senators Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, and Congress Members Henry Waxman, Judy Chu, Jane Harman, Maxine Waters, Linda Sanchez, Lucille Roybal-Allard and Xavier Becerra. The L.A. County Supervisors attending were: Gloria Molina, Zev Yaroslavsky, Don Knabe, Mark Ridley-Thomas and Michael Antonovich.

VETERAN NEWSMAN GUEST COMMENTATOR
