California Virtual Academies Graduates 230 High School Students
Online public charter school students moving on to colleges, universities
SIMI VALLEY, Calif., June 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Over the past week, the California Virtual Academies (CAVA), a network of public online charter schools serving students across the state, has graduated 230 students who have completed the high school requirements and received their diplomas. CAVA hosted two graduation ceremonies in Pittsburg and San Bernardino to celebrate the monumental achievement for this innovative education approach.
"I have had an exceptional educational experience with CAVA," commented class valedictorian, Jennifer Schultz. "My teachers and classes were centered around me and what I needed to succeed. With their help, I am not only well-prepared, but excited to take the next step in my education this fall."
Jennifer Schultz, who resides in Westchester, has been a student at CAVA for the past eight years and will graduate with a 4.18 GPA. While pursuing her education, Jennifer has also earned the Girl Scout Gold Award for her project "Good Times for Children with Cancer," providing children diagnosed with cancer a true, camp experience. In the fall, she heads to the University of Southern California and will pursue a major in print and digital journalism. Jennifer is one of many students who have experienced academic success at the California Virtual Academies.
Like Jennifer, most of the graduates will be attending colleges and universities. CAVA's highly individualized education program, innovative instructional model, and use of cutting edge technology make these graduates uniquely prepared for the rigors and challenges of college.
CAVA uses the award-winning, nationally-acclaimed curriculum and academic program developed by K12 Inc., the nation's largest provider of curriculum and online school programs for students in kindergarten through high school.
"This year's graduating class is a reminder of how important it is for students to have access to high quality online public school options such as CAVA," stated CAVA Head of School Katrina Abston. "CAVA has been an extraordinary success for thousands of students across the state of California and we are witnessing the results of their outstanding achievement. All of us at CAVA are extremely proud of this graduating class of seniors and we wish them the best as they pursue their dreams."
CAVA is network of tuition-free public virtual charter schools serving students in grades K-12 across the state. At CAVA, students are able to receive a complete, high quality education at home, on the road, or wherever an Internet connection can be found.
Students who enroll in CAVA receive the award-winning academic program developed by K12. The K12 curriculum includes engaging web-based lessons along with instructional materials – books, videos, CDs, and other hands-on tools and resources – which are shipped directly to each student's home. CAVA teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, and regularly interact with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone, and face-to-face meetings. Teachers also organize numerous field trips and school activities.
The California Virtual Academies use the K12 curriculum to offer California students in grades K-12 an exceptional learning experience. With individualized learning approaches, the California Virtual Academies and K12 provide the tools kids need to succeed—in school and beyond.
