PRINCETON, N.J., Dec. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Caliper Corporation, a Princeton, NJ-based human resources and talent management consulting company, earned the HR Award for Excellence in the area of Social Responsibility at the 18th Annual Delaware Valley HR Department of the Year Awards in Philadelphia, PA.
The award recognizes companies in the Delaware Valley who have gone above and beyond in the area of social responsibility through charitable giving, local outreach to non-profit organizations, and combined efforts to support local causes.
Caliper founded an internal "Caliper Cares" committee in early 2007 that allows employees to participate in and contribute to local causes and events. Since then, it has grown tremendously and continues to be a staple of Caliper's culture.
The mission of the Caliper Cares team is to coordinate the efforts of Caliper employees to positively impact not only the local community, but also the world.
"Social good and a sense of purpose have always been ingrained in the DNA of Caliper ever since I started the company more than fifty years ago, along with employee engagement and talent development, which continue to be major challenges in business today. Our staff is happy to report that this team-based charity initiative builds camaraderie and breaks down silos, doing good for the community while strengthening our employees," said Caliper Founder and CEO Dr. Herb Greenberg.
Charitable giving initiatives include the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, where, on average, Caliper employees donate both food and cash in excess of $10,000 each year before Thanksgiving; McKinley Community School, located in New Brunswick, NJ, where Caliper sponsors more than 70 students in need and purchases Christmas gifts for them to receive during an after-school Christmas program as well as a back-to-school giving program; a community of homeless people in lower Bucks County, Pennsylvania and a family who had been homeless and was moving into a new home; canine and breast cancer research; injured veterans through the G.I. Go Fund; and instruments and school supplies for Mayan children in Mexico.
In 2014, Caliper raised $11,675, or approximately $86 per employee, over the course of six events, all of which stayed true to Caliper's mission. Year to date in 2015, Caliper raised more than $5,700 over eight events.
A few Caliper clients also joined the winner's circle in other categories, including Iron Hill Brewery, who won the HR Award for Excellence in the area of Talent Management.
